The player added he kept his "on the off chance," saying: "We moved away about two and a half years ago, but I decided to keep the ticket.

“It was just on the off-chance that I won, and it looks like that's happened. I didn't think you'd be knocking at my old door.

"I'd recommend this to anyone. Always keep your ticket on the off-chance."

Christina, of Blaydon-on-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, said: "This is surreal, but I'm happy for them too. It is nice to share this with someone else. It makes it unique and a bit of a different story."

She said: "We had a family member who won a couple of years ago and I thought, 'I want a bit of that as well'.

"I would encourage anyone to do the Postcode Lottery. I never thought I would win."

How People's Postcode Lottery works

ACCORDING to the official website, players sign up with their postcode and pay £12 per month.

They are automatically entered into every draw and prizes are announced every day of the month.

Tickets play for prizes every day of the week - from Monday to Sunday, a ticket could win £1,000 each day in the Daily Prize.

Tickets could also win a jackpot of £30,000 in Saturday and Sunday's Street Prize draws.

People's Postcode Lottery also offer a £3 Million Postcode Millions draw each month - and your ticket plays for a share of a £3 Million cash prize fund.

Winners are notified by email, SMS message, mail or phone call depending on the prize they win.

Jackpot winners are visited by the lottery team in person.

Christina and Nissan car plant worker Matthew are now planning a summer break with their eight-year-old son and daughter, aged seven.

And the couple want to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in style later this year.

She said: "I'd have been happy with £10,000 and we'd go on holiday. We're married 10 years in October and not got anything planned. That might change now.

"I don't know how to put this into words. It's a lot more than I ever thought I'd get."

It comes after a lotto winner revealed how she was left convinced she'd lost out on a £160,000 jackpot after a direct debit mix-up.

Laura, from Ringland in Norwich, received the good news from her pal Sophie.

This comes after another winner also thought they'd missed out on the huge cash prize.
