IT is party season and time to get your glad rags on.

If you want a new outfit without splashing out, why not try customising a piece of clothing you already own?

Here are some ideas you can try to bling out the best in your wardrobe . . .

HEY STUD: Put some new life into a tired leather jacket or skirt with some studs for a bit of a flashy extra for party season.

First clean the item with a damp cloth and a specialised soap that can be used on leather.

Decathlon sells a pot for £3.99. Wipe dry with a clean cloth and apply a pea-sized amount of leather conditioner to help give it a little TLC.

Think about where you want to add the studs — they work well on the collar of a jacket or interspersed on a skirt.

You’ll need a stitching awl to pierce small holes in the leather where you’ll add the studs. Amazon has a good variety of styles starting from around £4.

TIME TO SPARKLE: Sequins are a staple at this time of year. If you have a top or dress that could do with a little extra glam you can easily add embellishments.

Again, Amazon is an easy place to order sequins in different colours with prices starting from £4.

You can sew them on, but it is just as easy to stick them on with fabric glue.

Make a pattern before you stick in place. Rather than doing the entire item — you could try adding just to the sleeves of a top or dress. Collars also work well.

IN A FLAP: Give a dress or skirt a little extra flair with a flapper-style fringe. You can buy these in different colours from around £2.50 a metre on Amazon.

Then simply sew layers on in rows for a more dramatic effect or just add to the bottom of the hem for a slightly more subtle look.
