The Range launches ‘no fuss’ Christmas tree that pops up instantly - but shoppers don’t hold back with their views

LAST minute Christmas shoppers have flocked to a well-known high street retailer after it slashed the price of Christmas trees.

With three weeks to go until Christmas, Wilko has already reduced the essential with nearly half off some products.

Wilko has slashed a 6.ft pre-lit tree to £125, nearly half off

The chain retailer has slashed the price of Christmas trees by up to 48%.

There are hundreds of different trees on sale with a selection of artificial trees – some coming pre-lit – and even a real fir.

Discounts apply to a range of colours including traditional green, and different sizes – from tabletop ones for small spaces to six and seven ft.

Prices start from just £11 for a small table-top tree, to £240 for a more opulent 7ft pre lit tree.

The biggest discount is on a pre-lit 6.5ft which is now £125, instead of £249.99 and comes with free home delivery.

That’s a reduction of £125, or nearly 50% off.

The everglow LED white artificial tree which stands at 5ft is slashed from £80 to £41.50 – a £38.50 saving, or 48% off.

The discounts are available on trees sold on Wilko’s website, so remember that you may have to pay for delivery on top.

Dunelm is selling a similar size 6.5ft pre-lit model for £259, while John Lewis has one for £299.99/

A similar size model can be picked up for less though without lights.

B&Q’s Kingswood fir from the National Tree Company is priced at £90.

Meanwhile Argos is selling a smaller 6ft pre-lit tree for £52.50, reduced from £70.

So just because something’s reduced in price doesn’t mean it’s the best deal, and it always pays to compare prices to find the best deal.

Websites like Price Spy let you compare prices on thousands of products to find out where it will cost you the least.

You can also have a quick scan on the Google Shopping/Product tab to see how much retailers are selling a particular item for.

Wilko is also doing 25% off Christmas decorations.

The deals won’t last forever, and shoppers could miss out on their favourite Christmas product, so it’s advised to call ahead or check online first.

You can find your nearest Wilko store by checking the store locator on the website, or alternatively, you can make your purchase online.

How to look after your real Christmas tree

HERE'S what you need to know if you're buying a real Christmas tree:

First thing’s first: buy a pot (if it doesn’t come in one already).

You’ll need to treat your tree just like a houseplant and give it water and attention.

Make sure the container has good drainage – and it’s a good idea to put something underneath to catch the excess water.

Check the soil everyday to make sure it’s not drying out.

If it feels dry, give it some water. If it still feels moist, leave it alone as too much water can also kill a tree.

Also check the LED bulbs on your tree lights aren’t too hot as they could burn it, and keep your tree away from radiators.

When Christmas is over, try planting it in the garden so you can dig it up and use it again next year.

It’s a good idea to take it out of its pot when you do re-plant it though, as large trees don’t survive well in pots as their roots need space to grow.
