A TOP TV chef's protégé has been forced to suddenly close an award-winning restaurant due to "challenging circumstances" after three years.
Jay Brady, who trained under two Michelin-starred Nathan Outlaw, announced the closure of his Cornwall restaurant, The Mulberry, yesterday (December 27).
The fish restaurant, situated in Falmouth, previously swept up a number of prestigious awards - including a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA rosettes.
Writing on Facebook, Jay cited tricky financial conditions as the reason for the shock closure.
He said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closure of The Mulberry.
“We would like to thank all of our amazing guests that have joined us over the last three years and for their support.

“Due to the rising costs and challenging circumstances, we are unable to open again."
The comments were flooded with support by loyal customers, with one calling the coastal eatery their "favourite restaurant of all time."
Another said: "We thought your restaurant was absolutely lovely and we will miss your delicious food."
Turning their attention to Jay himself, a third echoed: "Such sad news! But extremely proud of all you have achieved.

"Remember it's not just the place that's amazing, it's you. You have a big talent that no one can take from you."
Jay opened The Mulberry along with pal Harry Cartwright, who he had previously worked with at The Pig in Harlyn Bay, in 2022.
As well as receiving numerous awards - as recently as January this year - the restaurant was also named in the Michelin Guide's top 20 restaurants in the country.
The menu boasts a variety of fresh seafood and high-quality meat - with a focus on local ingredients.
Jay trained at the Nathan Outlaw academy as a teen - a fellow Cornish chef who's featured on the likes of the BBC's Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen.
He currently runs a number of acclaimed restaurants, including the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac, Cornwall - the only seafood restaurant in the UK to hold a Michelin star.
Nathan has also previously worked with TV chef Rick Stein.
News of The Mulberry's closure comes after chef Bradley Monk was forced to call time on the nearby One Fish Street in St. Ives, Cornwall, this month - as he also announced a huge farewell party at the joint.
And, Michelin-starred Nacho Manzano, announced the closure of three branches of his Spanish chain Ibérica after the company entered administration.
