Asda’s wine expert reveals how much you should spend on a bottle of wine to get the best value
Bottles priced between £6-£8 are the best value for money, according to Ed Betts, Asda’s wine expert
WHEN it comes to buying wine in the supermarket, choosing a decent bottle can be a minefield.
But the answer may be incredibly simple: just choose a bottle that costs between £6 and £8.
That’s according to Ed Betts, wine expert at Asda. He told The Sun Online: “It can be complicated to understand what is good value.
“But if you spend between £6 and £8 you are guaranteed to get a good bottle of wine for you money.”
That’s because the cost of a bottle of wine can vary depending on where it’s from, the region and the regulations for that area.
There’s also duty and tax to be paid and that means the cheaper the bottle - near the £3/£4 mark - the less that has been spent on the wine.
But that doesn’t mean you should rule out pricier bottles of plonk. Mr Betts added: “Anything above £10 will have exclusivity and rarity.”
The supermarket has found that most people take just ten seconds on average to choose a bottle of wine and over a third always stick to the same tipple.
