Ryanair customers warned about new Facebook scam offering two free flights
The post promises two free flights but it's really a scam that fraudsters use to steal your details
RYANAIR has warned customers not to be fooled by a new Facebook scam which offers two free flights with the airline.
The post includes an image of a fake boarding pass carrying the Ryanair logo.
It encourages Facebook users to click on the link and claim their two free tickets because the airline is celebrating "completing 32 years".
But unfortunately it's not legit. The link takes customers through to a malware website, which allows fraudsters to gain access to personal information.
It appears to be coming from a number of fake Ryanair website addresses, including "ryanair-airways.us".
In a post on the budget airline's Facebook page it said: "Warning, don't be fooled by this scam page. This is not an official Ryanair account or promotion.
"Remember, if it doesn’t have the ‘blue tick’ verification, it’s not the official Ryanair account".
It's not the first time that scammers have targeted Ryanair.
Last year, a similar scam emerged on Facebook promising free flights as part of the airline's 35th anniversary.
HOLD ON The little-known way to slash the cost of checking in bags with Ryanair
It's all very weird because the airline didn't actually start until 1985 - making it 32 years old this year.
A spokesperson from Ryanair said: “This is not an official Ryanair account or promotion and customers have been advised of this fact on our social media channels.
"Remember, if it doesn’t have the ‘blue tick’ verification, it’s not the official Ryanair account.”
Earlier this week Ryanair called for airlines to ban breakfast beers before 10am and limit booze to two drinks per passenger for the rest of the day.
HOW TO FIND A CHEAP FLIGHT
Even if you can’t find a bargain deal during the flight sale there are plenty of ways to find cheap flights to destinations that you want to go to.
1. Keep your searches a secret – always search for flights using the incognito or private browsing mode to see the lowest prices.
2. Use the best search engines – we recommend Skyscanner, Google Flights, Momondo and JetRadar.
3. Sign up to newsletters – you’ll be the first to find out about the cheapest flights, straight to your own email inbox
It comes after it was revealed that the number of passengers arrested for drunken behaviour has risen by 50 per cent in the last year.
At the beginning of the month the budget airline revealed its recently redesigned planes which gives passengers more legroom.
Despite the extra space customers will still have to go without back-seat pockets to help cabin staff save time when cleaning the aircraft during the tight turnaround and keeping it on schedule.
