How do other supermarkets compare?
If you still think M&S offer is quite expensive you’ll be surprised to know that it’s actual cheaper than at Asda.
When looking similar products – bearing in mind that all the meats at Asda and M&S can’t always be compared like for like – bargain hunters at Skint dad found Asda’ meat box would cost a whopping £42.68.
We then went to compare prices on
Although it would be cheaper to buy some of the products separately, we found that when buying in bulk prices were not so far off or more expensive compared to M&S.
How we compared prices
Here's how we checked if Marks and Spencer offer was worth it:
- We used mySupermarket.com to find the cheapest supermarket based on the items in our basket.
- Of course, it is difficult to compare each product like-for-like as most items don't weight the same and the types of meat can vary depending on the retailer.
- For each supermarket, we looked at the cheapest item for each type of meat (for example: fillet steak, sirloin steak).
- When the product was lighter we chose to add more to match it with M&S's offer.
At posh supermarket Waitrose it would cost about £33 to buy all of them in one go.
Morrisons came next with an overall cost of about £36 for each of the meats - that would be more expensive than M&S current offer.
Budget supermarket Asda and Lidl came next costing around £34 and £35 each but it's worth noting that all the meats in the M&S's standard box were not in stock.
The total cost for Tesco would beabout £38, which is also more expensive than Marks and Spencer current deal.
Naomi Willis, a bargain hunter from said she was genuinely surprised that the Marks and Spencer meat box works out at better value than some of the other big supermarkets.
She told the Sun Online "I think we pigeon hole shops into cheaper or expensive categories, but this goes to prove that you should always shop around for a deal.
"If you’re buying in bulk, I think it’s always worth checking that you’re actually going to eat what’s included in the pack. There’s no point spending money if a lot of it will just go to waste."
And it's not the first time M&S surprised its customers with a meaty offer.
Earlier this summer, it brought back its popular £10 dine-in meal deal and put more steak options on the menu for the first time ever.
Morrisons is another retailer which often has good deals on meat.
This summer it had a temporary offer on a gigantic 1lb beef burger that costs £3.

Earlier this month, it also launched a foot-long sausage roll that's double the length of one from Greggs.
Meanwhile, rival Aldi has also recently launched it's own massive meaty treat in the form of a 16oz rump steak that costs just £4.99.
For those looking to buy meat a bargain price might be another place to start.
