Asda has new fakeaway curry range – here’s how it compares to other supermarkets

The dishes are currently on offer but you'll have to fork out extra for a side of rice

ASDA has got your Friday nights sorted with three new additions to its curry ready meal range, including a Chicken Tikka Daal Masala dish.

But what's more, their prices have been rolled back so you can get your hands on them for just £2.50 each - but you'll have to buy rice separately.

A Lamb Kofta & Apricot Masala curry has also been added to the line up, as well as the new Coconut Chicken Curry.

All three dishes normally cost £3.50 but they are currently on offer for £2.50 each until October 19.

The Chicken Tikka Daal Masala is a twist on the classic North Indian dish comes with a lentil daal rather than the traditional side of rice.

But it comes with a three chilli indicator, so it's not for those who aren't keen on spice.

Similar own brand takeaway meals for one are selling in Sainsbury's, but the rice is included with the main dish and costs £2.75 - less than a complete Asda Indian takeaway ready meal from the new range.

The Lamb Kofta & Apricot Masala dish is Asda's take on the Mumbai favourite.

Even though the Sun Online hasn't tried it yet, Asda promises a "subtle taste of apricot" which adds to a "mouth-watering burst of sweetness".

The creamy Coconut Chicken Curry is for the takeaway fan who doesn't like too much spice.

Asda also offer three curry side orders: Pilau Rice on offer for £1 (usually £1.30), 8 Onion Bhajis for 85p on offer (usually £1) and Chicken Tikka Pakoras for £2.75 (normally £3).

If you are thinking of buying your fakeaway meal from Asda, you'll be looking to spend £3.50 per meal - a main and a side of rice - or £4.80 when they are no longer on offer.

Tesco also sell Indian meals for one which includes the main and a side of rice for £2.50. They are currently under offer for any 3 for £6.50.

Even though the flavour of the dishes are different to those available in other stores, you're looking to pay around £1-£2 more for similar dishes from other supermarkets.

But it's worth noting that a main and a rice side from Asda would bring the weight of your meal up to 700g.

Ready meals for one usually come in around the 450g mark so you may want to split the meal between two, although you'd still be getting a smaller portion.

Asda has launched the new meals just in time for National Curry Week, which kicks off October 9.

You can also get in the spirit of National Curry Week with Lidl's take on Wagamamas Katsu curry that only costs £2.99 for two.

Tucking into the curry at a Wagamama restaurant would set you back £10.75.
