KFC had fans in a flap after the fried chicken chain announced that it was bringing back the popular Double Down.
The breadless burger uses two pieces of chicken to the form the bun, with bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and bbq sauce making up the filling.
The chicken shop chain announced that it was releasing the burger in the UK at the beginning of October, giving fans a week to prepare.
But diners have cried fowl over some of the Double Down disasters they’ve been served at restaurants up and down the country.
Luke, from Congleton, Cheshire, tweeted than his order left him "seriously disappointed", despite the hype around their UK arrival.
He wrote: “Seriously disappointed by the KFC double down. Easily falls apart, barely any filling and no sides included in the meal. Give me gravy.”
Another tweeted a photo of his burger made up of two fried chicken fillets of two completely different sizes.
The picture showed how the top fillet was considerably smaller than the bottom and that it struggled to hold the filling in.
William from Manchester wrote: “The Death of Stalin' is easily the funniest film this year, whilst the double down KFC 'burger' easily the worst burger of the year.”
Other tweeters also complained about how disappointed they were with the burger.
One customer shared a photo of his messy looking burger. He asked: “Dear @KFC_UKI can you tell me what ate this before you served it to me??!! #doubledown #doubledisappointed.”
Another fast food fan complained that his burger looked nothing like the firm's glossy promotional shots revealing: "What a lot of hype for an awful burger. This looks nothing like the promo. Soggy, anaemic, messy and tasteless. AVOID.”
One savvy fan decided that the bunless burger needed the outer layer so sandwiched it between two slices of bread.
A KFC spokesperson said: “Looks like some of these Double Downs haven’t been served as they should’ve been, so we apologise. We’d always encourage any fans unhappy with the appearance of their Double Down, or any other meal, to let our team members know and they’ll be happy to help.”
The Double Down has been released in a number of KFC stores all over the world, where limited stocks sell out fast.
A spokesperson for KFC said that they expect it to sell out in the UK too.
The burger will be available for six weeks before disappearing off menus once more.
Yesterday we reported how the Double Downer had disappointed fans after it was revealed some restaurants are selling the limited edition burger with the a vital ingredient missing.
Over a hundred KFC branches may be selling the new limited edition burger minus bacon because they only sell halal-approved products.
The fast food chain is running a trial in 106 of its stores across the UK to test the success of halal food.
KFC states on its website that all non-halal products have been removed from these branches and this includes bacon and other pork products.
