BRINGING HOME THE BACON

First Tesco, now Iceland is selling pigs in blankets crisps

The budget supermarket has launched the crisps after its real pigs in blankets scooped first place in a prestigious taste test

IT may only be October but you can already taste Christmas on your lunch break with Iceland's Pigs in Blankets flavoured crisps.

Following Tesco's launch of the same flavoured crisps earlier this month, the frozen food specialists has decided to release their own hand cooked version.

The crisps come in sharing bags of 180g and cost £1 - which is 30g more than the 150g bag from Tesco and is the same price.

You can already bag yourself a packet of the crisps in store and the retailer won't be taking them off the shelves until after Christmas.

The Sun Online is yet to try the snacks, but according to Iceland the seasoned sausage flavour is paired with a "too-good-not-to-be-real bacon aroma".

Iceland promises they will have shoppers crunching through the aisles as they stock up their food cupboards.

It's bad news for vegetarians though as the crisps do contain traces of meat.

The launch comes as the budget supermarket scooped the top prize in the Pigs in Blankets category in the Good Housekeeping Christmas Taste Test.

The Luxury 10 Pigs in Blankets beat off competition from two entries from German supermarket Aldi.

Despite being named after the red and white striped sweets, the crisps are actually said to have a slightly pink hue.

For those brave enough to try them, the Candy Cane crisps have already hit shelves in Tesco and a 150g bag will set you back £1.
