Pukka Pies have got a new posh range and we’re not sure what to make of it
The famous pie maker has launched the luxurious new offerings - and has already proved a hit with pie fans
IT'S not something you associate with the finer things in life but even the nation's favourite pie is moving up in the world.
Pukka Pies has launched its "Posher Pie" range, with chicken, leek and pancetta and steak and porter ale taking their place alongside the traditional favourites.
Despite the premium branding, they don't cost the Earth - with both retailing for a reasonable £2.50 - and both have already been a hit with pie fans.
Its chicken and pancetta pie picked up a silver award at this year's British Pie Awards and combines "tender chicken, sliced leek and pancetta with a rich, creamy mustard sauce."
The hearty steak pie is made of "diced beef brisket in a rich porter ale gravy and carrots" and was highly commended at the same bash.
The pies launched in the Co-op last month and are currently being rolled-out to all stores, so you should be able to pick up one of the luxurious pies at your local shop soon.
BRINGING HOME THE BACON First Tesco, now Iceland is selling pigs in blankets crisps
Pukka Pies Deborah Ewan said: "Following in-depth research, we noticed a growing number of consumers who were demanding a more indulgent yet affordable pie eating experience, which currently was not being fulfilled by brands on supermarket shelves.
“We are confident that the new Posher Pukka range will meet this demand."
More and more retailers are launching premium ranges at cheap prices to tempt shoppers.
Last month, Aldi launched a new range of luxury ready meals inspired by Charlie Bigham Ready Meals sold in Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
Frozen retailer Iceland has splashed £2.5million on a range of new gourmet food in a bid to compete with Aldi and Lidl.
As well as its premium range, Pukka Pies also recently launched its very first vegetarian pie.
Its veggie tikka masala with chickpea and spinach is selling for just £1.69.
Pukka Pies was set-up in Leicestershire in 1963 and employs more than 350 people.
