The Sainsbury’s Christmas advert is out NOW! Watch the festive ad with Kermit the Frog right here
The Christmas ad marks a complete change of direction from the supermarket's previous campaigns
THE Sainbury's Christmas advert has always been up there with our favourite commercials over the Christmas season.
This year their advert strikes a different tone and comes after some much-loved Christmas crackers of adverts in recent years. Here's what we know and the advert in question!
When is the Sainsbury's Christmas advert released?
It's official! The Sainsbury's Christmas ad it out NOW! It was shown during one of the breaks of The X Factor on ITV.
Last year, the lovable advert featuring a run-down dad aired on Monday November 14, 2016.
The advert was aired for the first time on TV during a break from ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, on ITV, at 9.15pm.
But a full-length 3 minute and 20 second version was also shared on the supermarket's social media accounts.
What's in the Sainsbury's Christmas ad?
In a complete change of direction from the Christmas specials of recent years, Sainsbury's new campaign doesn't have a narrative.
The video is called, "Every Bit of Christmas" and instead celebrates the many ways that Brits spend the festive season.
The campaign centres around an upbeat but also quite annoying song, written by lyricist Ben “Doc Brown” Smith and composed by Mikis Michaelide.
And we can guarantee that it will be stuck in your head a long time after the end of the advert (although that's probably the point!).
What were our predictions for the Sainsbury's Christmas advert?
We expected there to be a creative twist on a classic Christmas message and we were right about that
Unfortuantely we got it wrong about there being a star involved, this advert features real people from real families and looks at how they celebrate the Christmas festivities.
What was the Sainsbury's Christmas advert last year?
Last year a stop motion animation followed Dave, a hard-working and devoted dad who, like many people, struggled to find the time to get everything done - especially at Christmas.
Set in the animated town of Bishy he returned home late to find his children fast asleep in bed.
He then got some unlikely inspiration from a gingerbread man that bore an uncanny resemblance to his own face and came up with an ingenious plan to create replica toy versions of himself - in all shapes and sizes - including a nodding dog, dancing robot and tapping monkey.
He sent the replicas to all the places he needed to be, including work and the Post Office, and managed to make it home just in time for Christmas celebrations.
The advert was set to an original song “The Greatest Gift For Christmas Is Me”, which was sung by British actor and comedian James Corden and composed by Bret McKenzie, known best as one half of comedy duo Flight of the Conchords.
