John Lewis ‘creature in the dark’ Christmas ad surprise is spoiled after staff put toy of the main character on sale early
The cuddly toy was meant to be a surprise toy that would be revealed on the telly very soon but was displayed at London's Canary Wharf store earlier this week
BUNGLING staff spoilt the John Lewis Christmas ad’s surprise by putting cuddly toys of the main character on sale early.
The advert is expected soon on telly.
John Lewis has been trailing it on social media with teaser pics and clips of a monster with goggly eyes with the hashtag #underthebed.
Bosses usually go to extraordinary lengths to keep full details of their Christmas advert secret.
But Moz’s cover was blown when staff at London’s Canary Wharf store got the release day mixed up and filled the checkout area with the £20 toys on Tuesday.
They were removed when a city worker spotted the gaffe. He said: “I’ve seen the #underthebed hashtag and trailers. I thought it had to be character from the adverts.
“When I went in to the same shop later the monsters had been completely removed from sale.
“I had a little chuckle to myself because I realised someone must have made a big mistake.”
John Lewis said: “We do not comment on speculation about our Christmas adverts.”
