DOUBLE TROUBLE

Poundland FINALLY launches £1 copycat Toblerone – but it won’t last long

After a three-month legal battle with Mondelez, which makes Tobelerone, the bargain shop has agreed to sell the 500,000 Twin Peaks bars it has already made

POUNDLAND has finally launched its Toblerone lookalike that costs £1 - but you'll have to be quick as only 500,000 bars will go on sale.

The chocolate bar, which is called "Twin Peaks", was delayed due to a legal battle with Mondelez who make Toblerone.

The budget store's design features two peaks in each segment, rather than one like the Swiss chocolate Toblerone bar.

In October, Poundland were ordered to change the design of the bar after a three month legal battle with Mondelez.

But Poundland had already made half a million of the chocolate bars.

It was agreed with Mondelez that they could sell the bars as long as they were in distinctive packaging.

That's why just 500,000 of the Twin Peak bars will go on sale in Poundland's 850 stores on December 4.

The budget chain will then relaunch the bars in the New Year with a different shape but that will still weigh 180g.

It believes the bars could become a collectors item with chocolate fans.

Toblerone's used to be one of Poundland's biggest sellers but sales dropped dramatically since they became a victim of shrinkflation last year.

Mondelēz increased the gap between the peaks to reduce the weight of the chocolate bars from 170g to 150g but the price stayed the same.

The legal battle between the two brands comes after a similar fight with Nestle and Cadbury, which is also owned by Mondelez.

In May, the Court of Appeal fuel that the shape of the KitKat was not protected.

Last week, Morrisons caused a storm when it started telling a GIANT Tobelerone for £57.

The bar, which weighs more than your average baby at 4.5 kilograms or just under 10 pounds, is the size of 12 bars.

Savvy shoppers soon spotted that you could buy 12 normal sized bars for as little as £37.50.

Morrisons is selling a giant 4.5kg Toblerone, more than 12 times the size of a standard one, for a hefty £57
