Aldi is selling a Prosecco flavoured roast chicken sprinkled with edible gold for £4.99
The boozy bird is the latest in a long line of fizz-inspired foods this Christmas
YOU might complain about dry turkey this Christmas but we're not sure a Prosecco-flavoured chicken is the answer.
Budget retailer Aldi is about to launch a Prosecco-infused roast chicken onto its shelves this week and claims it will add some "extra sparkle" to the Christmas table.
The boozy bird will be available from this Thursday for £4.99 and weighs 1.65kg - enough to feed a family of four.
As well as being marinated with the fizz, it's topped with wine and mushroom seasoning and that other foodie-trend that for some reason has started to appear everywhere - edible gold leaves.
But we don't think any amount of gold leaves or Prosecco will make it a luxury festive buy.
It's the latest in a long-line of product launches this Christmas that have had a bottle of fizz chucked on them - with Brits' appetite for the Champagne-substitute showing no signs of slowing down.

Aldi itself has launched Prosecco-infused cocktail sausages, and Prosecco and peach panettone sweet loaf this festive period.
And most weirdly of all, the supermarket last week started selling its range of tea bags infused with - you've guessed it - Prosecco - a year after Italian winemakers threatened to sue it over using the name.
Sainsbury's also got in on the act with the luxury gold-leaf trend, launching its range of premium steak cuts, which can be spruced-up for £3.
Julie Ashfield, buyer at the supermarket, said: “Aldi is never one to miss a trend which is why we created the specially selected Prosecco infused British chicken with gold shimmer.
"This fun and festive product is another example of amazing quality at Aldi’s everyday low prices."
The chicken is part of the supermarket's Special Buy range, which means that stock is likely to be limited, so you'll have to be quick if you want to pick one up for Christmas.
If you prefer your Prosecco out the bottle, then it'll be worth you keeping a close eye on the supermarket deals in the run-up to Christmas.
Budget supermarket Lidl is currently selling a giant, 1.5 litre bottle for just £12.99.
Last month Morrisons was also selling a magnum of fizz for just £10, and back in October Asda was selling its award winning bottle for just a fiver.
