Currys PC World is hiking prices on products sold in sales from Panasonic Blu-ray & DVD Home Cinema System to USB adapters
Gary Caffell, of MoneySavingExpert, said a clearance sale does not necessarily mean rock-bottom prices and urged punters to shop around
CURRYS PC World is hiking prices on products sold in clearance deals, we can reveal.
A Panasonic Blu-ray & DVD Home Cinema System offered at £199 was £169.99 last month.
A fridge freezer by Siemens, £1,099 in the clearance range, was £848.97.
And a USB adapter has risen from £8.98 in November to a clearance price of £14.99, a hike of 67 per cent.
The electricals giant is currently advertising its clearance range online with a promise of “low prices” and savings on TVs, washing machines, fridges and other products.
But some of the items have been selling for 67 per cent more as clearance items compared to their prices just a few weeks ago.
It comes after we exposed Argos for selling clearance products that cost 75 per cent less in previous promotions.
Gary Caffell, of , said a clearance sale does not necessarily mean rock-bottom prices and urged punters to shop around.

He said: “This shows that shoppers need to be aware that even though the sale signs are up, you might not be getting the best discount it’s ever had – or even the best deal out there.
“To avoid the dud deals, research is key – make sure you do your own comparisons as prices can fluctuate wildly from store to store and don’t take a retailer’s word for it that something is a good deal – a big discount at a well-known shop doesn’t mean it hasn’t been cheaper before or you can’t get it cheaper elsewhere.”
Currys PC World said some items identified by The Sun on Sunday were “incorrectly marked as clearance items” and promised to put it right.
