Reshopper app that will help parents make money from their kids second hand clothes
Reshopper lets mums and dads buy and sell kids' clothing, toys and lots more at second hand prices. It is used by HALF of Danish parents
WE all know that being a parent is an expensive business - but one new app is looking to help loosen the purse strings for mums and dads.
The Reshopper app has arrived in the UK and lets parents get rid of unwanted items their kdis no longer need quickly and easily.
Clothes they've outgrown, or old toys they no longer play with are typical examples of the items sold on the app - and best of all, it's much cheaper than buying brand new.
The app was first launched by a group of dads in Denmark back in 2012 and it has gone from strength to strength.
According to their own figures, more than HALF of Danish households with kids under 6 use the app each month, while they claim the average parent will make around £315 a year by selling their kids' unwanted toys and clothes.
Overall, one million items were sold in Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands in 2017 using the app.
CEO, and former Airbnb chief, Aja Henderson, said: "Reshoppper helps families and the environment in Denmark and it should have the same affect everywhere."
How does Reshopper work?
You can download the app for free on iPhone or Android smartphones.
Pop in your name, email address and password and then you're good to go.
You can see what's for sale in your area - the idea is that it's a local market place and parents pick up the goods they're buying or selling.
And of course, going to pick up the item means you can take a look at the quality and condition of it before you agree to pay.
'IT'S REALLY GOOD FOR PARENTS'
Carla Perry, lives on the outskirts of Copenhagen with her two-year-old daughter Flora. Originally from London, the mum is an avid fan of Reshopper.
"It's really popular over here and really simple to use.
"You just create a profile and search for items or select where you live and set a radius from where you want to pick up the items from.
"From when Flora was about three-months-old until she was about one, I used it all the time - both for buying and selling.
"I once bought a baby walker for £35 which would have cost £100 normally - and then when Flora didn't need it anymore I sold it via the app for another £35.
"You're buying and selling in your local area so it's really convenient too."
Most sellers will set a fixed price and although you are free to ask for a discount, Reshopper says that you "should think twice" before doing so - especially if it reasonably priced.
If you are having an item sent to you - and so you can't pay in cash - don't transfer money to someone's bank account, as you'll have no way of getting your money back if you're scammed.
Reshopper recommends you pay through PayPal instead, which could help you get your money back if your items don't arrive.
What about selling?
You can sell all sorts of goods - there's even a section for maternity clothes - but it must be related to babies and kids.
To sell, all you have to do is take a pic of the item on your phone (Reshopper says don't take one of your child wearing the item), enter a short description about the product and your address.
This is so buyers in your local area can get in touch and pick up the item when you've reached a deal.
