Downton Abbey-style castle with its own GOLF COURSE could be yours for £1.5m after price slash
The castle, which has been dubbed Wales’ Downton Abbey, is on the market for less than a three-bed house in London
YOU could live like a king in this enormous Welsh castle for a fraction of the original asking price - and even enjoy a round of golf in your own back garden.
Westbury Castle, worth more than £5m, has been dubbed Wales’ Downton Abbey and is on the market for less than a three-bed house in London.
The 200-year-old Grade II listed estate, located in Flintshire, North Wales, was on sale for £5m but is now going under the hammer for just £1.5m.
The slashed price comes after it failed to sell five years ago when it also included a 16th century dovecote building, a three bed-roomed lodge and eight acres of land.
The sale has now been stripped back to only include the main castle building - but it will still come with its own six-hole golf course and seven acres of land.
Once the ancestral home of the aristocratic Mostyn family, the castle’s mock-Gothic original features have been preserved including a decorative fireplace in the hallway.
The property also has a state dining room and morning room which would have been used to receive guests before they were seated for lunch.
Auctioneer Alastair Summerfield said: “Ultimately it's going to appeal to someone who wants to actually invest in property and see a return from it.
“I don't see it being bought by someone who wants to live in the whole castle, partly because it's been split up into the wedding and holiday let venue and nine apartments.
“It could be quite a good return, depending on what price it goes for in the auction.”
