Nando’s has admitted it uses McCain oven chips in its restaurants

RECREATING your favourite cheeky Nando's at home just got a whole lot easier.
The Portugese food chain has admitted that its side of fries are actually McCain's oven chips - the exact same ones that you keep in the freezer at home.
We first had our suspicions when a former worker spilled the beans to the , claiming that restaurants served up the standard oven chips, as well as some of their food being cooked from frozen.
Now, Nando's has confirmed that they do actually use frozen McCain's chips. You know, the ones that cost £1 a bag from Asda.
A Nando's spokesperson said: "As per standard industry practice, some of our non-meat items are delivered frozen, such as our hugely popular chips which we developed in partnership with McCain and are exclusive to Nando's."
And then they're serving them up as a regular side for £2.50. Talk about turning a profit.
Now, creating your own Nando's meal at home is even easier, thanks to the Peri-Peri rubs and sauces you can pick up in the supermarket.
A Peri-Peri rub costs 94p from Asda, a Peri Peri sauce will set you back £3.79 from Iceland, a whole chicken from Asda for £2 and a bag of McCain oven chips for £1 from Asda.

So you can get a whole meal for £7.73 with plenty to spare, whereas it'll cost you £16 from a Nando's restaurant (£13.25 for a whole chicken with £2.50 for a side of chips).
But of course, making it yourself means that you won't get that special feeling of treating yourself to a meal out and you'll have to do all the prep and washing up yourself.

The worker also revealed that the restaurant uses frozen food, like pittas, macho peas, veggie burgers and cakes.
Yesterday, the chain delighted fans when it announced that it is adding halloumi fries to the menu.
The new side dish comes in portions of five with a sweet chilli jam to dip them into. Mmmm...
