But today is the day to sort out your cupboards and cash in on the stuff you forgot you had.

Today is National Clear Your Clutter Day, a campaign run by.

Sun Savers talked to founder Jasmine Birtles to get her top tips on the best websites to use to turn your trash into cash . . .

Best for gadgets

Items can be listed in an auction-style format or via a “Buy It Now” option if you have a price in mind.

Cost: It is free to list up to 20 items a month, then each one costs 35p. The site takes a ten per cent cut of anything you sell, while PayPal takes a further 3.4 per cent plus 20p.

Best for vouchers

Never going to use that bungee jump voucher you got for Christmas? Don’t worry – Zeek will let you sell it.

It accepts all kinds of vouchers from store cards to experience days, provided you do not want more than 99 per cent of the face value.

Cost: Three per cent of the asking price.

Best for homeware

If you are looking to get rid of any bulky second-hand furniture, go to Gumtree – but be prepared to meet the buyer.

Site bosses recommend that meetings take place in public and you should always take someone with you, too. Never give out your bank details.

Cost: Free.

Best for clothes

Download the free app, upload a snap of the item you want to sell. Sellers set the prices they want and invite buyers to make an offer.

Cost: The site takes ten per cent of all sales.

Best for books, music and DVDs

Helps pay for postage and offers buyers the chance to collect, which cuts down on trips to the Post Office. Anything you earn goes straight into your Amazon account.

Cost: If an item sells, you are charged 75p, plus 15 per cent of the final price.

Best for beauty

Facebook shoppers are renowned for impulse buys, so make sure your items are new or tested and you have good pics.

Once you upload a post to the Marketplace, everyone in your local community can see it so you probably save on postage, too.

Cost: Free
