Aldi reckons staff scan your shopping 40 per cent quicker than rivals – here’s the reason why

Aldi's checkout service is super speedy but customers have started a petition to get them to slow down because they can't keep up

YOU can't deny that the check out service at Aldi is super-fast - but for some customers its just too much.

The speed of service has led to some customers speculating about whether the budget supermarket offers staff incentives to encourage them to speed up the service.

While the supermarket proudly claims that its tills are 40 per cent quicker than rivals, customers have started a Facebook page called the where they share their experiences at the store tills.

Can our taste testers tell the difference between Aldi and Lidl lookalike products compared to original sweets and snacks they aim to copy?

Some customers reckon it's because they're offered incentives to meet quotas when it comes to scanning your shopping.

Taking to Twitter to vent, one customer joked: ''Petition to make ‘keeping up with the Aldi checkout assistant’s scanning while packing your own bag’ a legit form of cardio.''

''There should be a petition for Lidl and Aldi workers to slow down when scanning at the checkout,'' another tweeted.

When the Sun Online asked Aldi if the claims were true, a spokesperson said: "We encourage all our checkout staff to be as efficient as possible which helps us to keep prices low for our customers.

''Our employees are trained to operate the checkout at the appropriate pace for each individual person they serve."

There's even a petition that's been launched to get staff to slow down.

The , which has been doing the rounds on social media, calls for a slower service "to make it easier for us to pack items" and states customers feel "rushed".
The government recently rejected the campaign on the grounds that it wasn't their responsibility.

The petition says: ''It's a common experience now to be rushed at Aldi.''

''While cashiers launch our food items through at a rate we can't keep up with and then ask us for money. We are scrambling to organize a huge pile of food in time."

Earlier this year Aldi overtook Co-Op to become Britain's fifth biggest supermarket by market share, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel.

It’s success is also down to the number of products it sells. It has a total of 1,500 product lines, compared to a major supermarket which stocks well over 40,000.

This allows Aldi to keep its prices low. For example, they have just one type of tomato ketchup versus a supermarket which might stock around 20 different versions.

Its not the first time that customers have speculated on why staff scan items so quickly.

This time last year, the supermarket claimed the speed of checkout staff was to keep down costs for shoppers.
