The truffles are a totally new format of Maltesers and will be on sale from mid-July from £1.99.

Don't worry about the flavours straying too far though, each sweet treat contains the familiar honeycomb and chocolate combination that you know and love.

But in a taste twist they have a new creamy truffle texture.

Mars said the product was created to give customers a ''different and more indulgent taste sensation''.

Rebecca Shepheard-Walwyn from Mars said: ''We are extremely excited to be launching these new products.

''Maltesers Truffles is a perfect gift for any occasion, if you can bear to give them away!"

The boxes come in three sizes, including 54g Token Gift Box, 200g Medium Gift Box and 336g Large Gift Box.

That's much bigger than Malteser's sharing bags - which are 93g - but slightly cheaper at £1.50.

The new chocolate is actually the second variant of the classic sweets to be released recently by sweet makers Mars.

The new shapes, which will be flatter and look more like a Minstrel, will also set to hit shelves in July this year.

Last year, Mars was slammed for shrinking the size of packets of Maltesers, M&Ms and Minstrels by up to 15 per cent, while keeping the prices the same.

It was the second time in a year that Mars moved to reduce the number of Maltesers in its sharing bags, which weighed in at just 93g, compared to 103g the year before.
