MORE than two million SSE customers will see their energy bills soar after the energy giant announced a steep hike in their bills.
But how much are they going up by, and when will the increase come in? Here's what we know so far...
Those who get their energy from SSE will have to shell out £76 more a year after the firm announced the cost would rise by 6.7 per cent.
This is a weekly rise of £1.50 for their 2.36million customers.
M&S Energy customers - who are also supplied by SSE - will also see their bills rise.
The increase will affect duel fuel customers who will see the price of gas go up by 5.7 per cent and 7.7 per cent of electricity.
SSE will be pulling its paperless billing discount, which had given customers who opted to get their bills online £6 off per fuel bill every year.
Customers who are on fixed-price tariffs, have a prepayment meter, or are on the vulnerable customer safeguard tariff will not be affected by the hikes.
The changes will come into effect from July 11, 2018.
SSE will be writing to all its customers before the rise.
The energy giant announced the hike on May 30, saying it had made the "difficult" decision to raise prices because the cost of wholesale had gone up.
It came just a day after 4.1million British Gas customers were hit with a rate rise which will see their bills rise by £60 a year.
Four of the Big Six energy firms have announced they are ramping up prices in the summer, affecting about 7.4 million homes.
