Morrisons £8 rib-eye steak voted one of the ‘best in the world’ by meat experts
The supermarket's shorthorn rib-eye, which costs £7.5 for a 280g steak, won gold at the 2018 World Steak Challenge
MORRISONS has beaten off competitions from some of the most expensive cuts of meat in the world to win the title of best steak in the world.
The supermarket's shorthorn rib-eye, which costs £7.5 for a 280g steak, won gold at the 2018 World Steak Challenge.
It was ranked higher than some wagyu steaks which are often regarded as the best cut of meat and can often cost up to eight times more.
Shorthorn beef is renowned for its texture and flavour because the beef is well marbled with fat, helping to develop a greater depth of flavour and tenderness.
The supermarket has been helping to revive the breed by working with farmers to produce the steak.
Entries into the fourth annual awards were received from 22 countries.
Jodie Bolland, beef buyer at Morrisons, said: "We’ve always believed in backing British beef and so we are delighted to see Beef Shorthorn up there with the best in the world.”
