The reason why shoppers are more loyal to Aldi and Lidl than the four big supermarkets revealed
Their high quality fresh produce and discount prices have kept customers coming back
CUSTOMERS are most loyal to discount supermarkets Aldi and Lidl, a study has found.
In comparison to the four big supermarkets Aldi and Lidl took the top spot, with their customers most willing to recommend the products according to TCC Global.
The discount supermarkets are rated highly by customers because of their high quality fresh food as well as their own-label alternatives to branded family staples. And of course their low prices.
Almost a third of customers said high quality fruit and vegetables are the main reason for deciding on a supermarket.
In an attempt to encourage customers to eat healthier and to compete with rival supermarkets, both Aldi and Lidl dropped the prices of their fresh produce earlier this month.
Aldi and Lidl: Why are they so popular?
HERE'S why customers love shopping at Aldi and Lidl:
- Quality products at low prices- The retailers are dedicated to keeping their prices low but don't sacrifice on quality
- Alcohol offering- The supermarkets are popular for their award winning wine and spirits selection, such as Aldi's own brand whiskies which were named the best in the world
- Own label alternatives- They provide high quality alternatives to branded family staples, such as Lidl's baby range which launched this year
- Deals and offers- Their limited special buys always prove popular with customers, such as Aldi's Specialbuys weekly offers
- "No frills" approach- You know what you're getting with Aldi and Lidl
Their selection of alcohol has also proved popular with customers.
Earlier this month Lidl was voted the best supermarket for its own-brand spirits in top industry awards.
The discount supermarket was praised for its own-brand gin, Hortus Artisan London Dry Gin, which costs £15.99 and comes in spirit and liquer form.
It also received praise for its bestselling Aperol copycat, Bitterol, which costs half the price at £7.99.

These bargain supermarkets are becoming major competitors to other UK grocers and not just because of their low prices, Bryan Roberts, from TCC Global, suggested.
He said: “Aldi and Lidl’s brutal efficiency, loyal shopper base and huge upside for new stores, has put the big four in an increasingly difficult position. This has prompted the ongoing consolidation in the sector as well as counter-measures in range, private label and pricing.”
Tesco had one of the lowest loyalty ratings, coming in seventh and Waitrose came in third place behind the German supermarkets.
This month Tesco started hiring staff for new stores, thought to be part of a spin-off discount chain to rival Aldi and Lidl. These could open as early as September.
