LOOK good for less – with the help of avocado, vinegar and tomato juice.
I asked Joanne Dodds, of hair products website , for her home-grown hair and beauty tips.
- Suitcase-friendly make-up: As you fly off on holiday, place a cotton pad or two between your blush and bronzer compacts to keep them safe in your suitcase.
- Repair dry hair with an avocado mask: Chlorine can take the moisture out of your hair, so apply a homemade hair mask, made up of one crushed avocado, olive oil and lemon juice, for 20 minutes.
- Make aloe vera ice cubes to treat sunburn: Simply freeze an aloe vera-based gel into ice cube trays to heal burnt skin.
- Use vinegar to stop hair colour fading: Sun and salt water can quickly fade coloured locks, but apple cider vinegar is a great natural remedy to help brighten your hair.
Simply add it to a spritz bottle, spray all over your hair and leave in for about ten minutes before rinsing out. - Keep your nail polishes in the fridge: High temperatures can cause polish to turn thick and gloopy, but keeping it chilled will extend its shelf life, making it smooth and easy to apply.
- Use tomato juice to keep blonde hair bright: Chlorine can damage hair, resulting in an awful green tinge if it’s blonde. For a post-swim remedy, coat your hair and scalp in tomato juice for five to ten minutes before washing with shampoo and conditioner. It will help to fade the greenish hue.
- Make coconut oil your new BFF: This amazing oil is a multi-purpose product — it’s great as a facial moisturiser, conditioner, hair serum and cuticle oil. Pack some in a small travel bottle and take it with you on holiday to keep your skin and hair hydrated.
- Fix uneven fake tan with baking soda: If you plan to stay away from the sunshine this summer and opt for a false tan instead, you can fix any botches simply by applying some baking soda to a loofah with warm water, then exfoliating.
- Use baby powder to remove stubborn sand: After a day on the beach, dust your skin with baby powder to remove all the stuck-on sand. It will absorb all the moisture that is making the sand stick to your skin, such as sweat, sun cream and sea water, so the sand will just drop off.
