Co-op is selling mini chorizo sausages wrapped in pancetta – and they’ve won a top taste test

The Co-op has launched Mini Chorizo in Pancetta pigs in blankets for Christmas this year

THE Co-op is selling a Spanish version of pigs in blankets for £3 this Christmas.

Instead of traditional pork sausages, its alternative side dish wraps Spanish pancetta around mini chorizo sausages - and they've won a top taste test.

The Co-op won for its £3 Mini Chorizo in Pancetta bites in Good Housekeeping's blind Christmas taste test, which was published yesterday.

They scored 78/100 in the pigs in blankets category, beating traditional versions by Aldi and Asda.

The 170g packs of the Mediterranean pigs in blankets will go on sale from December 12 in stores only.

There are cheaper pigs in blankets around this year though if you don't mind sticking with tradition.

Aldi's Specially Selected Pigs in Blankets cost £2.69 for 250g and were highly commended in Good Housekeeping's taste test.

Meanwhile Asda's commended 10 Extra Special Pigs in Blankets are 2p cheaper at £2.98 but you get more for your money as the pack size is 210g.

Aldi's £2.99 Specially Selected Three Little Pigs side dish - which came runner up in Good Housekeeping's taste test - costs the same as the Co-op's Spanish pigs in blankets but you get 118g more in a pack.

The Co-op's chorizo sausages are made in the Catalonian region of Spain, and the pancetta bacon also comes from the country.

It's not clear yet how many calories the pigs in blankets contain but The Sun has asked the Co-op and we will update this story if we hear back.
