Kids’ slime toy recalled for containing dangerous chemical that causes diarrhoea and harm to unborn babies

A CHILDREN'S dinosaur slime toy has been urgently recalled because it contains too much of a chemical that can cause diarrhoea, vomiting and even harm unborn babies.

The orange toy slime called Knet Schleim Dinsoaurier is being recalled in Ireland but there are fears it may have also been sold to UK customers.

Trading Standards UK, which helped issue the recall, said that an "excessive quantity of boron" was found in the slime toys containing a plastic dinosaur inside, made by German toy maker Out of the Blue.

Boron is found in borax, a common ingredient in slime that helps to create its stickiness.

In large doses, boron can cause skin irritation, cramps, and make a child or adult very ill. It's also been linked to serious burns as boron is also found in cleaning products.

The European Commission has warned that high levels of boron may also affect fertility and can even harm unborn babies.

Trading Standards warned parents not to let their child play with the toy anymore if they've bought it and to keep it out of reach of youngsters.

The recall notice states that the toy does not meet safety rules.

If you've bought the toy, you will be able to return it to the shop you bought it from for a full refund.

It's not the first time there have been safety warnings over slime toys.

Over the summer, Which? experts warned that most slime toys contain too much boron after an investigation analysed how much of the chemical was in 11 popular toys.

Eight out of the 11 toy slime products tested exceeded the EU safe limit of 300mg/kg.
