John Lewis Christmas advert 2018 launch – could shop signs changed to just ‘John’ be a hint?

THE speculation of what's in John Lewis' Christmas advert this year is getting more intense now the retailer has changed the name of some its branches to just 'John'.

The hotly anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert has become a key part of the run up to December 25, getting people in the festive spirit across the UK.

Rumours have already begun about this year's song featuring the legendary Sir Elton John and an acoustic version of Rocket Man.

A spokesperson for John Lewis didn't want to comment on why it's changed the name of its branches and said: "We never comment on speculation as we don’t want to ruin the surprise."

This obviously hasn't stopped speculation, with reports of shop signs changing in branches across the country.

The locations where the signs have been spotted include Oxford Street, Nottingham, Milton Keynes, Bluewater, Cribbs Causeway and Cheadle.

And viewers are really excited about soon being able to watch it, while some feel like they've had to wait for too long.

Twitter user Hannah, for example, thinks the retailer needs to release the ad right now.

Another user said: "Cant they hurry with the John Lewis Christmas ad :I I am so curious and excited to see what they came up with this year. Last year it was released around the 10th November. Can't be that long to wait anymore."

And they're far from alone in thinking this - thousands of Twitter users are tweeting about their expectations from the most anticipated Christmas ad of this year.

Kellie says she needs the John Lewis advert in her life.

Rumours started to suggest that Elton John would be in the ad when a "teaser trailer" went viral on Twitter.

The clip shows an astronaut design bauble on a tree with Rocket Man playing in the background and a mysterious figure sitting at a piano.

This year's Christmas adverts so far

BELOW is a list of Christmas adverts that have been released already:

  • Aldi: The retailer brings back Kevin the Carrot this year, but will he survive the festive adventure?
  • Argos: The advert features a creepy fool but it could ruin the big day for the little ones
  • Asda: This year's ad features a cannon-firing Santa, yetis and a giant inflatable snowman
  • Boots: The pharmacy chain's tearjerking ad tells the story of a relationship between a mum and her daughter
  • Heathrow: The airport's heartwarming Christmas ad sees two bears make it home to see the family in time for Christmas
  • Lidl: The bargain chain has launched three Christmas ads this year - but do you think they're funny?
  • Sainsbury's: It features little girl Tia and it could bring a tear to your eye
  • Tesco: The ad reveals very different ways families celebrate Christmas
  • Waitrose: The posh supermarket's festive campaign centres round its food being "too good to wait"

But it was later revealed to be a festive prank by radio DJ Chris Moyles.

Last year's Christmas advert by John Lewis told the story of a friendship between seven-year-old schoolbuy, who meets Moz the Monster, a noisy monster living under his bed.

The campaign's budget was £7million, and it was directed by French music video director Michel Gondry.

We cannot say when this year's ad will be revealed, but shoppers can expect it to be released any day now based on when previous years' adverts were launched.

Over the last two years, the retailer has released the advert on November 10, but it seems that they'll be unveiling it closer to Christmas this year.

John Lewis has 51 shops across the UK - and employs more than 83,000 members of staff.
