Costa customers angry as it ditches £5 lunchtime meal deal

Before you could buy a toastie, hot drink and snack for £4.95 - saving up to £2.20 for the meal

COSTA customers have been left outraged after the coffee chain ditched its £5 meal deal.

The chain launched its flagship lunchtime offer in April this year, giving customers the chance to purchase a small or medium hot drink, toastie and a snack for £4.95.

Normally the most expensive combination would cost you £7.15 so customers could save up to £2.20 in the deal.

The discounted combo was available between 11am and 2pm, making it the ideal lunchtime order.

But it appears that Costa has already scrapped it, and some customers didn't realise until they reached the till.

One customer wrote on Twitter: "Costa got rid of their meal deal and I'm heartbroken."

Another slammed the chain for not making it clearer that it had withdrawn the deal.

Martin Clark wrote: "Went in for my meal deal @CostaCoffee to be told it’s finished yet the advertising is still on display on the shelves.

"Mislead us why don’t you Costa? Answer in store: if we take the signs down we’ll have none as we've not been sent replacements. Very poor".

But it looks like it's not a permanent change, and instead it's part of a promotional rotation, meaning that what is included in the deal is subject to change.

It's been dropped in favour of its Christmas menu but will be back in January with a few extra changes.

A Costa spokesperson told The Sun: "The Costa Coffee Meal Deal was removed from stores in November as we introduced our limited edition Christmas menu.

"We will be re-introducing our meal deal, with some exciting new options early next year."

Costa competitor Starbucks actually offers and cheaper lunchtime deal for £3.99 but it doesn't include a coffee.

In October, bargain store B&M launched a meal deal where customers can pick up a sandwich, snack and a drink for £1.75.
