Nectar card customers furious after thousands of points wiped from rail passengers’ accounts

The issue affects rail passengers who have bought tickets for London North Eastern Railway

NECTAR card users are furious after thousands of points deleted from their accounts still haven't been returned.

The issue affects rail passengers who have bought tickets for London North Eastern Railway (LNER) - formerly known as Virgin Trains East Coast.

LNER customers earn two Nectar points for every £1 spent on LNER tickets purchased on its website.

Once they have 500 points, they can swap them for £2.50 worth of vouchers to spend at LNER. After that, passengers get £5 for 1,000 points, £10 for 2,000 points, £20 for 4,000 points, and £50 for 10,000 points.

But despite LNER tweeting 10 days ago that it was "aware there has been an issue with disappearing Nectar points" and that this was now "resolved", some say their missing points have yet to reappear.

One Twitter user complained tweeted: "Hi @LNER, it's been 9 days but I still have 300 nectar points missing. Any news?"

You can spend your points at a number of retailers such as Argos, eBay, Eurostar, Go Ape, and Sainsbury's.

Nectar card holders collect one point for every £1 you spend - but it's worth 0.5p when you spend it.

That means 500 points are worth £2.50.

Another said: "Just reading that the points taken from me 2 weeks ago should have been resolved today but I’m still missing about £20 worth of points".

And it seems other users have lost as much as £40 worth of points. One Twitter user wrote: "Can you tell me when my points will reappear I have ‘lost’ over £40 worth!"

Someone else said they're still £20 short: "I lost 5,500 Nectar Points 2 weeks ago. I've spent time contacting @nectar by chat and a long phone call. I was assured that the problem was due to a glitch at LNER.

"There has been an adjustment to my account but I'm still £20 short!"

LNER told The Sun that all missing points should be credited to accounts by tomorrow morning.

A LNER spokesperson said: “We apologise for the issue some of our customers have had with Nectar points over the last few days.

"The problem has now been addressed and customers should see their Nectar points restored to the correct level by tomorrow morning.”

A spokesperson for Nectar said: "We’ve worked with London North Eastern Railway to fix this and return customers’ points. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused."
