Check eBay: The days following Christmas will see many unused and unwanted gifts being flogged for super-low prices while people have the time off work to list them. So keep an eye on the site for new listings while you’re out at the shops. Check hourly to find real savings.
Cashback: Check quidco.com to get cashback when browsing sales online and get even more money back on your purchases. Did you know that certain cashback sites offer in-store cashback, too? Check to access the list, upload your receipt . . . and ker-ching!
Play the card game: Seen something you really want that is on offer? You could buy a discounted gift card, which would make it cheaper. I check giftcards.tesco.com as it often sells branded cards for less. As we went to print, you could get ten per cent off a £30 iTunes gift card, making it £27.
Compare it: Use comparison shopping websites to make sure you are getting the best price, whether shopping online or in store. Idealo.co.uk is useful as it also has a price history tool, so you know what an item cost last week and how much of a saving you are really making.
Gift it back: Have you received a gift card when what you really need is cash? If you can’t find anything you want in a store you have a gift card for, go to website zeek.me, where you can sell your card back for cash. A £100 Debenhams gift card translates to a £79.90 PayPal payout.
