Outraged mum told Greggs vegan sausage rolls are ‘too POSH’ to sell in her local shop
The 55-year-old said it was like a "post code lottery for sausage rolls"
AN OUTRAGED mum was told her that her town was not "posh" enough to sell a Greggs vegan sausage roll, she claims.
Jean Johnson, a mother-of-one, stopped into a Greggs in Kirkby, near Liverpool, to try the snack after she saw Piers Morgan kick up a fuss about it on This Morning.
The 55-year-old was shocked when she was told that there were none available.
She told the "I thought I'd try one of these new sausage rolls, but they had none.
"When I asked if they had run out, I was told that they had never sold them, because they are too posh for Kirkby."
She went on to say that it was like a "post code lottery for sausage rolls."
Greggs vegan snack was released earlier in the month as a pilot in a select number of stores.
A spokesperson for the bakery chain said: "It was released in 950 stores in Britain as a pilot phase for the product.
“It's not because it's too posh for Kirkby, we intend on distributing it across all stores, including Kirkby, as soon as possible.”
This Morning presenter Piers Morgan tried one of the vegan sausage rolls live and appeared to throw-up in a bin after.
Kirkby residents were not impressed when they heard what Jean was allegedly told.
Carol Fletcher, 54, told the Echo: "Hell no! They're for everyone, everyone has different diets now."
Bob Hughes, 66, said: " Well why should they be? I supposed there's a lot of vegans in Kirkby so why should they be so posh?"
