Shoppers mock M&S for selling a heart-shaped ‘Love Sausage’ for Valentine’s Day
The 460g banger, which is wrapped in "lightly truffled bacon," costs £5
POSH supermarket M&S wants you to look at its new "love sausage" - and shoppers are finding it hilarious.
The high-end department store is selling heart-shaped bangers in time for Valentine's Day, but customers are mocking the chain's cheeky name for them.
The 460g sausage, which is wrapped in "lightly truffled bacon," costs £5 and could feed at least two people.
But never mind the price as shoppers can't get over how M&S has called it a "love sausage".
Just like johnson, pecker and trouser snake, the name sounds like a hilarious synonym for a penis.
It's clearly a deliberate marketing play by the posh supermarket to attract some viral attention for its new product.
And it's working like charm, because hundreds of people are already mocking the banger on social media after M&S announced this morning that the Carry On-inspired breakfast treat will go on sale in stores from tomorrow.
The innuendo was rife online.
Graeme Lyon wrote on Twitter: "At least they’re not sliding into your DMs with a picture of their love sausage. Well played, M&S."
Sarah Spink added: "Ooo err Missus. @marksandspencer have gone all saucy and made a "love sausage" What a carry on!"
Mandy Rhodes joked: "Not just any 'Love Sausage' but an M&S 'Love Sausage.'"
Stuart Young leered: "My wife loves my sausage she may like that too."
Chris Jones joined in and said: "Does your wife like a love sausage? Know what I mean? Love sausage? Nudge Nudge / wink wink."
If you do fancy wrapping your hands around M&S's "love sausage," the grocery chain recommends cooking two eggs in the middle of the heart-shaped banger for a romantic breakfast.
The eggs are included in the price of the sausages, sadly.
M&S is expecting them to fly off the shelves and sell 15,000 of the wieners.
A fiver is quite a lot for two large sausages though, and there are much cheaper ways of cooking your loved one a fry-up.
Aldi sells eight Ashfield Farm Pork Sausages weighing 454g for £1.25.
Lidl sells the same number for even less at 85p for its Warren & Sons British Pork Sausages.
