Boots hikes meal deal price by up to 60p
The retailer is increasing meal deal prices in 34 stores around the UK as part of a three-month trial
BOOTS shoppers face an up to 60p price hike when buying meal deals from this week - but it depends on where they shop.
The retailer is trialling higher prices in 34 stores across the UK.
It wouldn't tell us which shops are affected but did tell The Sun that branches in London will see meal deal prices rise by 50p (12 per cent) from £3.99 to £4.49.
One loyal customer tipped us off about the increase after being hit by the price hike in his local London Liverpool Street branch.
But affected stores outside of the capital will see prices rise by an even bigger amount, increasing by 60p (18 per cent) from £3.39 to £3.99.
Boots says it expects the trial to last for three months, although it remains tight lipped on whether the increases will be rolled out nationwide afterwards.
The retailer has around 2,500 shops across the UK - although this does include pharmacies and not all of its shops will sell fresh food.
Its meal deals are a popular lunchtime snack for shoppers, offering savings of up to £3.85 when you buy a sandwich, snack, and drink.
A spokesperson for Boots said: “We are committed to offering great value and we regularly review all of our prices taking into account both internal and external factors.
"Our meal deal pricing has remained unchanged for the past 18 months and we are currently trialling some variations on the price in a small selection of our stores.
"Our aim is to maintain a truly competitive price together with the incredible range our customers enjoy and expect."
When we compared the best value meals deals around, Tesco came top of the tables.
B&M launched a meal deal last year, which is a steal at £1.75 and you get a sandwich, snack and a drink.
But Costa customers were left fuming last year when the coffee chain ditched its lunchtime meal deal.
