Asda recalls dauphinoise potatoes over allergy fears
The pre-pepared side dish costs £1.50 from Asda and has an expiry date of March 28 2020
ASDA is recalling packs of posh dauphinoise potatoes because some of them actually contain cauliflower cheese.
The huge packaging error means that the pre-prepared dish could actually trigger allergies if eaten.
The cauliflower cheese meal contains wheat in it, which could be harmful to those who are allergic to gluten.
If a coeliac - someone who reacts badly to gluten - accidentally eats the protein it can make them seriously ill.
They may experience diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, constipation and fatigue.
The batches that have been affected by the recall weigh 375g and have a use by date of March 28, 2020.
Your product recall rights
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full redund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
The dishes cost £1.50 and have a barcode of 5054781724490.
Asda is urging shoppers not to eat the dish if they know they are allergic to gluten.
Instead, you should return it to your nearest store in exchange for a full refund - you don't need to bring the receipt.
In a recall notice issued on the Trading Standards website the supermarket said: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will ensure this doesn't happen again.
"If you would like any further information please contact Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101."
