From codes on your receipt and cashback on future orders to new customer discounts and freebies for downloading apps, there is generally always a way to secure a bargain and avoid paying full price.

It doesn’t take long to seek out a deal, so before you order and pay, check the following tips to grab a bargain.

Voucher code websites find the deals for you

Instead of trawling through the internet searching for codes to give you a discount, head to a website such as , , or .

These websites pull together current valid discount codes and make it easy to find a deal at the restaurant you’re ordering from.

It’s always worth checking a couple of websites to make sure you’re getting the best deal available to you.

At HotUK deals, for example, there's currently a when you spend £20 or more on pizza at Pizza Hut for both delivery and eating in a restaurant.

You can also get at Domino’s Pizza or codes from Vouchercodes.

If pizza’s your takeaway of choice, at , there is a special tool you can use to search specifically for deals at Domino’s Pizza.

All you need to do is sign up to the website and enter your postcode and it’ll list all working codes available to you.

It might also be possible to combine a discount code with another offer such as if you have a code for money off, this could be used alongside an existing deal from a restaurant.

This will depend on where you're buying from, and the deals you're using, but it's worth checking to see if you can cut the bill even further.

Newbies get the best deals

If you’re a brand new customer to a delivery service, there’s probably a discount waiting for you to unlock.

UberEats offers when you order for the first time using a code while for Deliveroo there’s deals knocking .

Both websites regularly offer discounts if you're referred by a friend and they in turn will get a complimentary discount back.

Go directly to takeaway websites

If you go directly to a restaurant or takeaway service’s website you can often find some good deals.

Just Eat, which works in a similar way to Deliveroo providing a middle-man service between restaurants and those ordering, offers 10 to 30 per cent off selected takeaways.

When searching for a restaurant on the website or app, you’ll need to put in your postcode and restaurants with a discount will be flagged up.

This can either be for money off the food you’re buying or for free delivery.

Sign up for apps and newsletters

By signing up to newsletters and downloading apps from your favourite restaurants you will be alerted first to upcoming deals.

These are regularly updated and will be either emailed to you or will appear in your app when they go live.

You may also be able to claim some free food. If you download the McDonald’s app, for example, new users can then claim a free hot drink.

The KFC app works in a similar way and the first time you download it you’ll be automatically allowed to get two free spicy hot wings worth 99p.

With the Burger King app the deals change weekly and include offers such as two bacon cheeseburger meals for £5 or a Texas BBQ and fries for £1.99.

Students can also grab discounts including 15 per cent off at Just Eat if they download the app.

If you find you're regularly getting takeaways from the same restaurant, there may also be loyalty schemes to sign up to, such as .

These pay out rewards every time you spend and the Papa Rewards scheme gives you one reward point for every £4 spent. Once you have 25 points you can redeem them for a free large pizza.

Save your receipts and travel tickets

Before getting rid of your old receipts or travel tickets, double check you’re not about to lose a discount.

At McDonalds, for example, there is a code on most receipts asking you to fill out an online survey. Once you’ve done this you’ll be given a money-off voucher which can be used to buy a Big Mac and fries for £1.99.

Train and bus tickets can also often carry money-off deals so they’re worth checking.

Grab free cash for future takeaways with cashback website

Cashback websites are well worth checking for takeaway deals. Along with having regular cashback offers on popular takeaway places, they often have big one-off deals.

Right now, for example, is giving new members £15 to spend at Pizza Hut until May 12.

You can also get until July 1.

At , there is 4 per cent cashback for new customers at Just Eat or 25 per cent off when you spend £30 or more at Dominos.

If you get the timing right, you can get a free 41 cheese pizza next weekend from Deliveroo to celebrate the Eurovision song contest.
