QUALITY Street is axing its much-loved Toffee Deluxe sweet again - two years after a social media storm saw its return.

The brown wrapper sweet is being replaced by a new variety: the Chocolate Caramel Brownie.

There was fan fury when sweet makers Nestlé first scrapped Toffee Deluxe treats from packs in 2016.

The chocolate was one of the original flavours when Quality Street first launched in 1936.

Customers were so outraged that the sweet makers did a U-turn and brought back the treat a year later.

But now it has been quietly shelved once again as Nestlé introduces a new brownie flavour sweet.

The new Chocolate Caramel Brownie is a milk chocolate case with gooey chocolate flavour caramel in the centre.

The sweet is only "limited-edition" and Nestlé has confirmed that it won't be in packs permanently.

That means the sweet makers could bring back the Toffee Deluxe in future to replace it - particularly if there's another social media frenzy.

Nestlé said it can't rule out the return of the sweet - and admitted it's deliberately trying to whip up a storm with its latest pack shake-up.

A spokesman said: "Well, we know we got your attention the last time we dropped the Toffee Deluxe so couldn’t resist trying it again.

"But seriously, everybody’s got a favourite Quality Street and the assortment has changed a lot over the years.

"Every now and then we like to introduce new exciting flavours to the mix and are certain that our delicious chocolate caramel brownie will be a hit for 2019.”

What does the new flavour taste like?

Instagram user Kevssnackreviews was one of the first to try the new Chocolate Caramel Brownie sweet. Here's what he thought:

Unfortunately by “brownie” they just mean chocolate flavour caramel.

It’s very tasty, because chocolate caramel is always nice.

There’s just nothing remotely brownie about it

The total number of varieties in a pack remains at 12 after a 13th sweet - the Honeycomb Crunch - was quietly removed from packs last year.

The Toffee Deluxe was created in 1919 as a sweet sold on its own before it was included in the first ever box of Quality Street.

Since then, the delicious milk chocolate wrapped toffee has been a family favourite and is particularly a Christmas staple.

You can already buy cartons with the new mix of sweets in some retailers, including Poundland.

But Nestlé told The Sun that the new selection will roll out to all major supermarkets and shops nearer Christmas.

Nestlé has also axed Tooty Frooties sweets after almost 60 years.

Meanwhile, Milkybar now comes in milk chocolate for the first time.

We've also revealed green tea matcha KitKats are finally coming to the UK.

Why on earth did Nestle remove Toffee Deluxe from Quality Street in the first place?
