THAT'S A WRAP

McDonald’s ditches Fiery Buffalo Chicken Wrap because it’s ‘too spicy’ but replaces it with a Hot Cajun Chicken one

MCDONALD'S is ditching its Fiery Buffalo Chicken Wrap from the menu because customers found it "too spicy".

Instead, it's replacing the Big Flavour Wrap with a new - and milder - Hot Cajun Chicken version.

The fast-food chain added the Fiery Buffalo Chicken Wrap to the menu in June last year but The Sun understands customers stopped buying it because it was just too hot.

Buffalo sauce is made with a chilli called Habanero and is classed as super hot. It scores between 100,000 and 350,000 units on the Scoville Heat Scale, making it the 10th hottest chilli in the world.

But the new wrap is drizzled in a Cajun sauce, a seasoning made with cayenne chillies, bell peppers and paprika.

Cayenne peppers only score between 30,000 and 50,000 on the Scoville chart making them significantly less spicy.

The wrap still comes with the same dried Jalapeño peppers and a slice of pepper jack cheese to give it that extra kick.

A slice of tomato and shredded lettuce are also squished into the tortilla wrap for a fresh crunch.

Both wraps cost the same at £2.99 each and the new wrap will also feature in the fast food chain's "Wrap of the Day" rota where its price will drop to £1.99 once a week.

The Sun had a chance to try the Hot Cajun Chicken version and can confirm that if you like a bit of spice then this wrap is for you.

It's hot, but not unbearable, and you can still taste all of the flavours that have been packed into the lunch.

Like other wraps at McDonald's, you can order the treat with a crispy chicken fillet or grilled meat instead.

The crispy chicken option has 503 calories while the grilled version has 309.

An adult man should eat around 2,500 calories a day while it's 2,000 for a woman, according to NHS guidelines.

The new wraps will be available to buy from June 26 - but it means June 25 is your last chance to tuck into a fiery buffalo one.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "The new addition has proven incredibly popular in the early sales tests, outperforming the polarising Spicy Buffalo One, with customers reporting the Hot Cajun One provides just the right amount of spice for a delicious and great value lunchtime lift with the grilled version under 400 calories."

McDonald's has also given its bacon breakfast bun a hipster makeover, which will be made with a sourdough bun and three rashers of crispy bacon.

It is also axing Dairy Milk and Crunchie McFlurries - but it's bringing back Smarties and Maltesers versions permanently to the menu instead.

The changes are part of its new summer menu and will be available to order from next Wednesday.
