B&Q issues Whoosh ceiling fan safety warning over fears blades could break and injure you
B&Q shoppers who've purchased a Whoosh fan from the DIY chain are being warned to stop using it as there are concerns the blades could break off and injure you.
The safety warning involves two Whoosh ceiling fans that have been sold since 2008.
Affected models have one of the following two barcodes: 0000005136698 or 5052931327393.
In a statement on its website B&Q said: "B&Q would like to make customers aware of a safety issue with two products in the WHOOSH Ceiling Fan range.
"In some cases the blades of the fan may break whilst in use which could cause injury.
"If you have one of these products, please stop using the fan function immediately and contact the helpline below for assistance."
It's worth pointing out that this is a safety warning and not a product recall.
When you ring the helpline on 0300 303 4482, you'll be offered a replacement blade kit or you can get a refund or exchange in store where it appears that the fan usually .
You don't need a receipt or order confirmation to do this.
B&Q says it's withdrawn the item from sale in agreement with Trading Standards, although it couldn't tell us how many of the affected items have been sold in the past nine years.
The DIY specialist adds that the similar Shek ceiling fan, which has been on sale since April 2018, is not affected.
