At a reported 43,000-square feet, the four-storey coffee shrine will become Starbucks' largest retail outlet in the world.

It's going to be located on the Magnificent Mile on the former Crate and Barrel site (646 N. Michigan Ave., corner of N. Michigan Avenue and Erie Street).

Here, opening hours will be 7am till 11pm Monday to Thursday, 7am till midnight on Friday, 8am till midnight Saturday, and 8am till 10pm on Sunday.

The Chicago roastery will be Starbucks' sixth branch, joining existing locations in Milan, New York, Seattle, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

Starbucks' roasteries are different to its usual high street branches as they give fans the chance to see the coffee being roasted on site and learn more about the hot drink.

Other Starbucks roasteries located around the globe include libraries stocked with titles on coffee, experience bars to learn more about how the drink is brewed, and mixology bars where coffee and tea is added to alcohol to create cocktails.

Branches also serve up coffees that you can have on top of ice cream, freshly roasted coffee beans to brew yourself at home, and include in-store "Princi" bakeries serving Italian-inspired food and snacks.

Starbucks says the Chicago branch will include drinks "inspired by the culture and traditions of Chicago" that will only be available in this location.
