Inside the incredible 15th century mansion with stunning views of the beach, 31 rooms and five acres which could be yours for £3million
Historic Harlyn House, near Padstow, Cornwall, which was owned by the same family for over four centuries, is up for sale for only the third time in its history
A MANSION that boasts some of Britain’s best views has gone on the market for only the third time in its history - with a price tag of £3million.
Historic Harlyn House was owned by just one family for over 400 years and was only sold for the first time in 1856 and then again in 1947.
The Grade II-listed property stands in five acres near Padstow, Cornwall and commands breathtaking views of nearby Constantine Bay.
It has 31 rooms, 10,000sq ft of space and features dating from the medieval, Jacobean and Georgian periods.
The house, at the end of a 200-yard long driveway, was owned for four centuries by the Tregew family.
In the 15th century Richard Tregew was an MP for the area. His son Gregory Peter, whose initials are found on the gateposts was High Sheriff of Cornwall.
It passed through the family until John Tregew, who was also a High Sheriff of Cornwall, put it on the market in 1856 as he had no heirs to leave it to.
It was bought by the Hellyar family who used it as a working farmhouse.
They owned it for 90 years before the last owner transformed it into what you see today after buying it in 1947.
Estate agents Lillicrap Chilcott said: "The setting of any property is often its most important attribute and it is indeed hard to find fault with the location of Harlyn House standing between Harlyn and Constantine Bay beaches.
"This is amongst the very best coastal settings anywhere in Cornwall with immediate access to a very beautiful and immensely sought after part of the north Cornish coastline with some of the county's most celebrated beaches literally on the doorstep which is perfect for all manner of seaside activities from rock pooling to surfing."
