Planning permission to transform the Bodmin Moor site into one large family home means demand is expected to be high
A ROW of ruined cottages on the rugged moorland made famous by TV’s Poldark are expected to sell for over £400,000 - despite being uninhabitable.
The three 17th century workers’ homes have no roofs, doors or windows.
There is no electricity supply or drainage and running water comes from a spring and an old well on the grounds.
Yet estate agents are expecting plenty of interest after the houses on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall were put up for sale via sealed bids.
This is because planning permission has been granted to transform them into one large detached house.
It is thought the cottages - known collectively as Canaglaze - once housed staff who wokred on an ancient hill farm on the site.
They were inhabited until the 1960s after which they fell into disrepair.
The plot is currently owned by a pair of artists who stay in a chalet on the land when they visit.
It comes with nearly five acres of land and is accessed by a dirt track which requires a 4x4 vehicle to negotiate.
The properties are surrounded by open moorland which has featured in the BBC hit drama Poldark.
The exterior scenes for Ross Poldark's cottage, Nampara, were shot on the moor.
Chris Bailey, a partner of estate agents Knight Frank, said: "This really is a rare opportunity to purchase a property that is genuinely off-grid.
"It is completely isolated and there are no neighbours to speak of.
"It is absolute peace and quite, it really is getting away from it all.
"Yes, the current property is in a state because it is derelict but there is planning permission in place to rebuild it.
"It is not listed so it can be torn down but that would be a shame. It is well shored up."
Bids have to be in by December 1 and it is expected to sell for in excess of £400,000. It could cost the same amount again to turn it into a detached home.
