A NEW app has launched claiming to help drivers save millions of pounds in fines.

Caura will pay and manage driving costs - such as congestion charges, road tax and some car insurance - on your behalf when you set up an account.

It claims to make paying your vehicle costs easier by managing payments automatically under one app.

It means it could help you avoid penalties if you overlook and miss a payment or charge.

Although you won't entirely avoid all fines if you sign up, it will make avoiding them easier, according to the app.

To set up an account, you can download the app via Google Play or the App Store.

It is free to set up an account and the app works nationwide.

It comes as fines are expected to soar as London's Ultra-Low Emission Zone boundary has expanded, now covering everywhere inside the North and South Circular roads.

Drivers of older cars and vans will have to pay a £12.50 charge for every day they drive in the zone. And if they don’t pay the charge, they’ll get the fine.

Caura claims that it can help drivers avoid the £864million worth of fines that is estimated to be dished out in the first six months of the ULEZ expansion.

If you want to use Caura to automatically pay the ULEZ charge, however, you'll have to pay the app £10 a year to do so.

However, this charge has been waived for the time being by Caura in a bid to get customers to download the app.

Caura chief executive and founder Sai Lakshmi said: "Caura is the first app of its kind, bringing all aspects of vehicle admin into a single app, allowing drivers to manage a growing number of city, toll and clean air charges across the country, from one place."

It's not the only app that can help drivers avoid fines.

Radarbot is an app that helps you detect speed cameras so you can avoid coughing up for fines if you're driving over the limit.

You could be fined up to £2,500 for speeding - so the app could help you avoid hefty penalties and keep you safe on the road too.

By Miles is also an app that can help you avoid ULEZ fines.

It will detect when you've entered the ULEZ charging zone - and send a notification on your phone reminding you to pay the charge in order to avoid a penalty.
