Top 10 best electric cars – affordable EVs that are cheaper than a TESLA
EIGHT YEARS. That's the countdown until all new cars on Britain's roads will need to be powered by electricity.
But electric cars are too expensive, right?
Well, they are more expensive than the average petrol or diesel car right now, but they're getting cheaper and some are more affordable than you might think today.
Remember that you'll get an extra £1,500 off your EV as a grant if it costs less than £32,000 too. Don't worry, we've factored that in here.
There was a time when Tesla ruled the electric car roost, but while they're still cool, you've got a much wider choice of great EVs today.

And don't worry, they aren't all tiny little city runabouts that you can't fit the kids in.
Sure, those are in there, but we've also got proper family SUVs, estates and stylish hatchbacks for you too.
And we're not talking about budget brands, either. Even Audi features.
Importantly, all of our EVs come in at under the cheapest Tesla on sale, which is currently the Model 3 at £45,990.
Buying any of them with finance or running them as a company car through work will make them even easier to afford for most.

2. Hyundai Ioniq 5
Underneath this Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the same as the Kia above, but gets its own striking look inside and out.

3. Peugeot e-208
The Peugeot e-208 is a small car with big-car comfort and design.
It feels a lot more expensive inside than its £28,695 starting price suggests and its 225-mile range will be more than enough if most of your driving is done in town.
4. Skoda Enyaq
Like Kia, the jokes about Skodas seem a distant memory.
These days they're often smarter buys than the VWs on which they're based, and the Enyaq is one of Skoda's best models.
It's roomy and practical, will go up to 331 miles and costs from £32,785.
5. Audi Q4 e-tron
If you like a fancier badge on the bonnet, the Audi Q4 e-tron is probably more you.
It's essentially the same as the Skoda Enyaq underneath, but has a more upmarket look and feel about it.
It costs more as a result, but starting at £43,150 is still less than a Tesla Model 3.
6. Volkswagen ID.3
We all know the Volkswagen Golf, but the VW ID.3 is Volkswagen's Golf for the future.

8. Mini Electric
The Mini of the past is iconic, but this is the Mini of the future.
It doesn't go as far as most on a range, but Mini reckons 145 miles is enough for its buyers.
It gets the same quirky exterior and interior look, though, plus the quality and sharp drive Mini owners love. It starts at £28,500.
9. MG5
The MG5's looks might not be an instant turn on, but give it a chance.
It's got all the kit you could want and need, is very comfy to drive and offers estate-car space, all from just £28,195.
You don't get a stingy range either; it'll travel up to 250 miles between charges.
10. Fiat 500 Electric
Italy's answer to the Mini is a constant sight on our roads, but the Fiat 500 has been updated for the modern era.
