It's ALL ABOUT HUE

Here’s what your car’s paint says about you – are you an owl, chilli or a heron?

ONE of the most difficult things to decide on when choosing your car is the colour - and which hue you go for may actually give away a lot about you.

Which shade you go for can reveal your true colours thanks to your subconscious preference, according to an expert.

Brightly-coloured motors are usually driven by people keen to be seen, while darker shades suggest you don't want to be centre of attention.

Research conducted by new car finance firm examined the personality traits of drivers who own cars in the top ten most popular shades.

The research found that 31 per cent of owners chose the vehicle they currently drive purely for its colour.

White, black, silver, grey and red vehicles are a common feature on the UK's roads - with grey being the most in demand.

Top colour psychologist Karen Haller explained: "We have an emotional response and react to colour every waking moment.

"Colour can change how we think, feel and behave in an instant!

"The colours we choose to surround ourselves can help support how we feel, how we want to feel or how we want others to perceive us."

So, which persona matches the colour of your motor?

The Owl

If you drive a grey car, you most likely prefer to remain behind the scenes and shy away from the spotlight.

Blending in among the crowd is your forte, hence your decision to purchase a grey motor.

You typically like to fly through life inconspicuously without being noticed, while having a more conservative outlook.

Grey car drivers are measured, think things through and don’t make rash decisions.

Chilli Pepper

Those who are behind the wheel of a red motor love to live life in the fast line and are always the centre of attention.

You stand out on the roads and in every other scenario, as you are likely a confident person who enjoys taking risk.

However these aren't always calculated - you are very spontaneous and likely to be the liveliest friend, and the most bold, outgoing one.

The wavelength of the colour red advances to the eye the fastest, so we see red before we see any other colour, making it appear to go faster.

The Heron

If you get around in a silver car, surprisingly, you aren't flashy.

Despite being likely to have many attributes to those who own grey cars, you just prefer the prestige of silver.

These drivers are usually serene and calm, preferring the finer things in life and in road lanes.

You are measured in everyday life and enjoy splashing the cash on things that make life slightly more exciting than the norm.

Aidan Rushby, CEO of, said: "Buying a new car is one of life’s greatest pleasures and the colour of the vehicle is clearly going to play a part in that.

“Manufacturers are constantly making subtle changes to the colours of their vehicles although the core colours remain the same because they sell so well.

“But there is a deeper meaning to our choice and many elements come into play. Our data shows that 31 percent of people chose a car just because of its colour.

“But in an ideal world, other considerations should come first, such as the price or monthly payments."
