PARKING MAD

Parents’ fury as selfish driver blocks school crossing and then ‘abuses parents for complaining’

FURIOUS parents have slammed a selfish driver who allegedly blocked a crossing outside a primary school.

Trouble flared outside the gates of St Edwards School, Middlesbrough earlier this month when the “abusive” motorist clashed with mums and dads.

The markings are implemented so that children can be seen more easily when crossing the road.

Extensive efforts were initially made to track down the offending motorist after their vehicle was spotted by a local school crossing patrol officer.

But when the driver returned to the car, they rudely confronted and abused angry parents who had complained about their actions, according to the outlet.

Other locals have now chimed in after a photo of the terrible parking was shared on social media.

Writing on Facebook, one angry resident said: “They should be named and shamed.

"It’s horrible for them to do that.”

Another parent said: “They all park like that on the school run.”

In response, Middlesbrough Council say that parking on the lines is a flagrant break of traffic laws – which can land motorists with a fine of up to £70.

Cllr Eric Polano, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration, said: “We would like to remind all motorists of their responsibilities in line with the Highway Code.

“We understand everyone has busy lives but this is not an excuse to be inconsiderate of others.

"Please follow the rules of the road and think of others when dropping off and picking up.”

Earlier this year, The Sun exclusively revealed the actions of traffic wardens who allegedly slapped parking tickets on parent's cars even when their engines were running.

Mums and dads claimed the wardens were dishing out parking tickets to those who pulled over to let pedestrians cross the road.

And many more shared how they had witnessed fellow parents being ticketed for parking or stopping for no more than a few seconds.

It happened during a pilot scheme where streets around schools are closed during pick-up and drop-off.

But the initiative has already caused anger amid claims motorists have been fined by authorities for parking on their own street.
