The automotive experts at Peter Vardy have offered a range of top tips to motorists struggling with rising costs.

One of them is to do with car headlights and the importance of keeping them in good condition in the run-up to winter.

UV rays from the sun cause oxidisation to happen to your headlights causing them to look foggy and tinged yellow.

With the nights becoming darker earlier in autumn and winter it’s important your headlights are bright enough.

Otherwise you could be a danger to other road users.

Take half a lemon and sprinkle baking soda on top of it and use it to scrub away any dirt and oxidisation on your headlights.

This should leave your headlights in a good condition for the darker nights.

It's likely you'll already have what you need lying around at home but you'll be able to pick it up for less than £1 if you don't.

Branded headlight cleaners cost many times more and new headlight units can cost £100s to buy and have fitted.

The motoring experts also shared their tips on using shaving foam as a way to stop windows fogging up.

For the hack, you will need shaving foam and a microfibre cloth.

Put a generous amount of shaving foam onto the cloth and wipe it on your windscreen, both inside and out, until it disappears.

This should prevent your windows from fogging up in the colder months.
