KEEP IT MOVING

Driver overtakes huge queue of cars because they don’t know how to read road signs – but viewers are left divided

A DRIVER has divided opinion with his enterprising move past traffic on a dual carriageway - overtaking hordes of cars queuing as they approach some roadworks.

The viral video shows traffic beginning to build on the inside lane of the carriageway, with roadside signs just beginning to appear.

TikToker @Carfectionary uses a dash-cam to record the footage of the long line-up as he moves along in the outside lane.

The traffic begins to increase on the left, with cars, vans and lorries all slowing down.

The yellow road signs are becoming more regular - notifying drivers that the outside lane is closed further ahead.

Drivers have over 800 yards left to move over to the inside, but all choose to do so immediately.

Except, that is, for @Carfectionary who happily passes by - labelling the waiting traffic NPC’s (Non-Playing Characters) - because they can’t think for themselves and just follow the person in front.

The dash cam car of @Carfectionary approaches the roadworks and cones begin to mark where the roadworks begin.

At this point he moves across and filters into the left lane - although a blue Volkswagen Scirocco appears to initially block his first attempt.

The video then has a ‘cheers, pal’ caption to thank the driver behind for letting him merge with the inside line of cars.

The clip is pointing out drivers' lack of understanding over basic road rules - while it wouldn’t be advisable for every car to move across to a single lane at the same time, the 800-yard marker allows you to merge gradually.

Although some motorists find that anyone leaving it till the last moment to merge is not really considering other road users or driving in the right spirit.

Viewers are divided, with many taking to the comments section to share their thoughts.

TikTok user TofuShopSenpai said: "Always gets to me how people don’t understand how to use merge lanes.”

Matt replied: "You just know they’re all moaning about you pushing in, even though it’s literally what you’re supposed to do.”

Another user, I, questioned leaving merging till that late, saying: "the fact that everyone else isn’t doing it leaves you at the mercy of them at the end.”
