A CAR cleaning whizz has warned drivers should never use a household item to clean their car - saying it'll do more harm than good.

The man behind the TikTok account Tred Cars uses the page to share his extensive knowledge on motors - including do's and dont's.

As well as posting about his love of cars, he also reveals hints and tips on to how to look after your vehicle best.

And now he's told drivers to avoid using a very common item when cleaning.

Warning Brits not to use bath towels when drying cars, he said they can damage the paint work.

In the short video which got thousands of likes, he said: "As car owners and lovers we should all take pride in taking care of our cars.

"And that means doing the right thing and using the right products on them.

"With that being said here are some things you should not be using on your car.

";[Do not] use household towels to dry your car.

"These are way abrasive for your cars paint so using them can damage it and also cause swirls.

"Instead, make sure to get a microfiber towel.

The content creator also said you should not use Rain-X Wiper Fluid or go to automatic car washes.

He said: "It does its intended job well but there are some side effects.

"The chemicals in this fluid can ruin your wiper systems and you'll have to get that repaired.

"And finally, we have the automatic car washes.

"Dirt and debris gets stuck in those wipers from previous cars and becomes a rough surface against your paint which is not good.

"You're better off doing it right at home in your driveway."

It comes after one car expert recently revealed the hacks which could leave your car damaged.

Some they warned people to steer clear of were DIY dent removal, viral foam jet wash and cleaning the inside of your car with carpet stain remover.
